Sustainability isn’t a mere product feature. It’s an ethic, a way of being that needs to guide everything we do.

Along with greenhouse gas emissions, erosion and s Along with greenhouse gas emissions, erosion and soil depletion are major challenges the world is facing (in fact they’re all linked). This is a really easy but crucial way to reduce your footprint on our planet and contribute to regenerating our soils.

So many organisations are collecting food scraps from the public – to name just a few, we can recommend @kelmarna, @omg_akl and @thecompostcollective in Auckland, @kaicyclewgtn in Wellington, and @communitycompost in Nelson. Your local council will also likely have recommendations. If you know another organisation collecting food scraps that you can recommend, make sure to tag them in the comments below!

Microplastics have become omnipresent in our ocean Microplastics have become omnipresent in our oceans, right up to our shores. A huge part of that comes from the clothes we wear and wash – every time we wash synthetics, they shed microfibres into the water stream, that then make their way into the ocean and its ecosystems. In one of these NZ studies, 90% of the particles found were identified as fibres!

Trips under 2 kilometres account for nearly a thir Trips under 2 kilometres account for nearly a third of all distance driven in NZ*. Can you imagine how much we could reduce carbon emissions by with effective public transit in urban areas? And can you imagine how much better life would be if towns and cities became spaces designed for people, not for cars? The good news is, things are moving. The rules and priorities around urban planning are starting to shift, as more and more people choose to imagine this reality. It starts with each of us imagining that vision.

Sadly there’s no shortage of greenwashing exampl Sadly there’s no shortage of greenwashing examples out there. Terms like sustainable, eco-friendly and even regenerative are routinely co-opted for marketing purposes. If it’s doing more harm than good, it’s not sustainable. If it’s encouraging excessive consumption, it’s not sustainable (let alone regenerative). If it’s contributing to further disadvantaging vulnerable communities, it’s not sustainable. It’s time to walk the talk!

We can’t just wait for technology to fix the env We can’t just wait for technology to fix the environmental challenges we face – as individuals, we have to actively be part of the solution too. With the rise of energy demand from transport, that means taking a long hard look at our electricity consumption and how we can all reduce it by using only what we actually need.

The area of the project is home to a number of endangered species, including the rowi – New Zealand’s rarest kiwi – kōtuku (white heron), kea, and the recently rediscovered Ōkārito gecko, all of which are most likely to thrive in a predator-free environment.
