“Go Well have proved to be invaluable partners as we work on various projects to lessen our impact and future proof our business. The team has helped us decide where to focus our energy and having their expertise on hand has provided us with confidence when communicating our sustainability journey. I can also recommend their Beyond the Basics course.”
– NIKKI SOONS, HEAD OF BRAND & MARKETING, BURGERFUEL GROUP
BurgerFuel Group (BFG) is a New Zealand-born multi-brand hospitality group with over two decades of experience in the restaurant sector. Founded on the back of the original BurgerFuel store – which first opened its doors in 1995 -the Group has grown into a portfolio of three distinct brands: BurgerFuel, Shake Out, and Winner Winner. Operating across a network of franchised and company-owned locations, BFG has established itself as a recognised name in the Australasian restaurant market, with presence extending into the Middle East. Sustainability is nothing new for BFG — their Enviro-mental programme, established in the early 2000s, was a founding commitment to keep the environment front of mind as the business grew. They engaged Go Well in 2019 to help turn that long-standing intention into a clear, practical roadmap for the future.
We initially supported BFG to develop a comprehensive sustainability strategy, working with their team to identify priority impact areas and create a practical roadmap for action. Despite the significant disruption of Covid-19, we have continued working with the Group through our Part-time Sustainability Team (PST) service, providing ongoing strategic and implementation support across a range of initiatives. This has included supporting the RFP for a suitable packaging supplier that met their packaging goals, advising on the rollout of improved in-store waste separation systems and commercial composting collections and processing, reviewing and refreshing sustainability communications across the BurgerFuel website, and creating a practical sustainability guide for storeowners. More information about BurgerFuel’s sustainability journey can be found here.
BFG’s journey is a good reminder that sustainability in hospitality is rarely about a single big move: it’s a series of interconnected decisions across packaging, waste, communications, and culture that compound over time, and what’s encouraging about BFG is their willingness to look honestly at the complexity, invest in getting the foundations right, stay on the journey, and bring their franchise network along with them. If you’re a hospitality or food business looking to develop a sustainability strategy, transition your packaging, or communicate your journey we’d love to hear from you.
We’re here to evolve business for the sustainable future.
