“We began working with Go Well Consulting as we were lacking direction and focus for where to go on our sustainability journey. Sustainability has always been important to Deane, and we had already been working on quite a few initiatives, but we knew we needed to take things further and establish realistic and timely goals for us to work towards. Go Well worked with us over six months and helped to educate and inspire the team, all while developing us a robust, but realistic roadmap for the next three years. Their support and guidance helped us to identify what was most material to the business, while ensuring we are working towards regenerating the planet and empowering our people. We are now utilising their expertise going forward to help us meet some of the our most challenging goals, and keep us accountable.”

– HANNAH SHARPE, DIVISIONAL MANAGER MARKETING & CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE, DEANE APPAREL

Deane Apparel is one of New Zealand’s most established uniform and workwear suppliers, with close to a century of experience outfitting the dedicated teams behind some of the country’s best-known businesses. Based in Auckland, Deane supplies workwear, hi-vis, corporate uniforms, healthcare and aged care apparel, hospitality and chef wear, and food manufacturing garments. The business operates across New Zealand and Australia and offers end-to-end uniform solutions, with some of their clients including Air New Zealand, McDonald’s, Foodstuffs, and the Department of Conservation, among many others.

In 2023, Deane Apparel came to us seeking direction with their sustainability initiatives. Sustainability had long been important to the business and they already had a number of initiatives underway, but they recognised the need for guidance to formalise their goals, prioritise what mattered most, and establish a clear, realistic path forward.

Go Well led Deane through our Sustainability Strategy process, beginning with Stakeholder Engagement with their key stakeholders to ensure the strategy reflected the perspectives of the people who matter most to their business. Alongside the strategy, we developed a comprehensive Communications Plan to help Deane tell their sustainability story with confidence. We have continued to support Deane with their strategy implementation through our Part-time Sustainability Team (PST) service.

Additional pieces of work we have done with Deane include Emissions Mapping, a Modern Slavery Position Statement, and three Lunch & Learn sessions to educate and inspire the Deane team. We have also worked with the Deane team to produce two Sustainability Progress Reports, which they have shared publicly – something we think shows an admirable commitment to transparency.

Working with Deane over multiple years and projects has been a pleasure and has also reinforced something we believe strongly: sustainability isn’t a one-off project, it’s an ongoing commitment, and having the right support in place makes all the difference.
