Established in 2006 Natural Pet Food Group is the parent company of brands K9 Natural, Feline Natural, and Meat Mates. The Christchurch based company has always had a focus on using the highest quality of natural ingredients from New Zealand, but at the time they contacted us, mid-way through 2022, hadn’t yet developed a plan for their sustainability performance.
Working closely with their newly appointed, and first, Sustainability Manager, we guided them through our strategy development process including engaging with their key stakeholders, undertaking a materiality assessment, and collaboratively building a bespoke, ambitious and credible strategy that would guide their decision making over the coming three years.
With the vast majority of their product being exported to overseas markets there was careful consideration given to the attitudes and expectations of these international consumers, and the differing geographical context of sustainability e.g. local waste management infrastructure, consumer knowledge and engagement on sustainability etc.
Following the development of the strategy we provided them with an accompanying Sustainability Communications Plan and supported them implementing both through our Part-time Sustainability Team service.
